Before he had finished speaking, behold, out came Rebekah, who was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Nahor the brother of Abraham, with her water jar on her shoulder. And the girl was very beautiful and attractive, chaste and modest, and unmarried. And she went down to the well, filled her water jar, and came up. And the servant ran to meet her, and said, I pray you, let me drink a little water from your water jar. And she said, Drink, my lord; and she quickly let down her jar onto her hand and gave him a drink. When she had given him a drink, she said, I will draw water for your camels also, until they finish drinking. So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough and ran again to the well and drew water for all his camels. (Gen. 24:15-20 AMP)
May the Lord be your portion forever. Rebekah is a woman just as you are, she belongs to the family favored by the Lord and approved by Father Abraham, indicating that she is of God and so are you if you have given your life to Christ and are born again. She is beautiful – as you are- so permit me to say we have a whole lot of similarities with her. She maintained her duty post without wavering, in that she stepped out to fetch water for her house hold at the appointed time without procrastination. Genesis 24:11 says the time when women go out to fetch water… Sister, there is time for everything.
Does it interest you to know that the Lord desires to drink from your life? He wants you to willingly pour on Him all that you are,…
Was it a mistake that the camels knelt down at the well at this time? It is important that we go about with our pitcher all the time in expectation of what the Lord has promised you so as to receive and have water to quench the thirst of the persons that the Lord has placed on your part in life. Does it interest you to know that the Lord desires to drink from your life? He wants you to willingly pour on Him all that you are, just like Mary broke the expensive alabaster box and perfumed the Lord’s feet, wiping His foot with her hair, kisses and tears. She gave her all to the Lord. It is what you give that counts most. And the greatest gift you can give is your life. Moreover, as ladies we must be truly good to all.
Rebekah chose to do good to a total stranger whom she didn’t even know, but because it has been her character to do good to people regardless of their status, race, culture, age etc. she gave without being persuaded to give. She was hospitable; it wasn’t a show of pretense in order to be seen and praised by men. Your character cannot be hidden for a long time, but can be built and worked upon. She did good without expecting a reward nevertheless she received a wonderful reward by becoming the daughter in-law of the wealthiest man in her generation ‘Father Abraham’, wife to Isaac and thus entered into God’s divine plan for the children of Israel, the people of God.
The Bible says she was very beautiful, beauty alone will not produce the necessary result required but quality character plus beauty will take you to the top. Your character determines the shape of your home, your relationship with your husband, children and in-laws, roommates, course mates, co-workers in the same unit etc. Some sisters are not yet engaged because of their character, the Lord cannot trust them with a home, and some homes have been destroyed as a result of faulty character.
Your godly character will open you to great connections, open doors of breakthrough to you. She didn’t tell the servant man that she was ready to get married until he proposed to her on behalf of his master’s son. She entered into great fortunes all by her strength of character and beauty. This is a lesson for us all, women.
