“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But ye have not so learned Christ; if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:17-32)
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2)
In this article we shall be discussing about the transformed Christian. In truth however, the term “transformed Christian” is a misnomer because really a Christian is supposed to be a transformed man or a transformed woman. Every man is meant to have a transformed life. It is God’s will for each one of us to live as men and women that have experienced transformation.
Transformation talks about change. Transformation talks about a difference and God’s will is for us to be separate from sinners and separate from the world. We are meant to be a people who are distinct from the world. God told the children of Israel in Exodus 19:5: “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine.” This is God’s will and plan for our lives.
Every servant of God in the Bible has something to say about transformation. Jesus spoke about it extensively as you would find in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). In Matthew 5:13 Jesus began to say that you are the salt of the earth and he says if the salt has lost its savor, wherewith can it be salted but to be trampled upon. He says you are the light of the world and a city that is set upon the hills cannot be hid. Peter spoke about transformation. In 1 Peter 2:1-2, he says “putting away malice, anger, putting away all of these things he says as new born babes desire the sincere milk of the word that you may grow thereby.”
We are going to spend more time here looking at what our text says about the transformed Christian. Romans 12:2 says “do not be conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Now, what happens when a man gets born again? Let us back off a little bit and lay a simple foundation: what part of us is transformed, what aspect of our lives transformed? 1 Thessalonian 5:23 shows us see the anatomy of man in the light of the word of God. Man is made up of three parts. He says “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly/completely and I pray God that whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our LORD Jesus Christ”. We are made up of these three parts: spirit, soul and body. A complete transformation, total transformation will manifestly affect your spirit, your soul and your body. A lot of people say “Oh Christianity is a thing of the heart, it doesn’t really matter what happens on the outward”. This is true to some extent but is not the total truth because Jesus taught us in Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven”. There is nothing like hidden Christianity, a hidden Christian life that people don’t know. When you are transformed, yes it could and it will start from the spirit but eventually it will lead to the transformation of even your body.
